Fish catch is not improving - MIFCO

Managing Director of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) Adhil Saleem has said that the fish catch in the country is not improving.

Adhil Saleem speaking to Miadhu Daily said that in 2006 fish catch decreased by 50% and 30 % in 2007. He said during the past 2 months of this year there was no signs any improvement.

He said that the company is not getting sufficient amounts of fish to sustain daily operations due to poor fish catch across the country. Adhil however noted that in the south there were signs of improvement although in the north and inner Maldives fishing keeps deteriorating by the day.

Adhil revealed that on last Thursday the company was only able to get 200 tons and that this was a figure that was 50% higher than the previous day.

Adhil said that although fish catch is poor for the last 2 year he was confident that it will improve in the near future.
